Caramelized Apples


  • 6 tablespoons (3/4 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 pounds (approx 6) Granny Smith Apples
  • 1/4 cup (packed) light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt


  1. Peel apples
  2. Slice and core apples with apple slicer into 12 wedges
  3. Melt butter in a 5 quart pan over medium heat
  4. Add light brown sugar, cinnamon and salt to melted butter
  5. Stir until evenly dissolved
  6. Add apples
  7. Stir to maintain even coating
  8. Cook for 8 to 12 minutes covered, stirring about every minute
  9. Stop when apples are soft and syrup is thickened
  10. You may wish to leave sitting in the covered pan for a few minutes after cooking to let the syrup thicken

Left overs should be stored in the refrigerator.
